Hundreds gathered to enjoy another great parade, as well as fun, food, holiday music and stage performances at the 18th Annual Forest Ridge Holly Day Parade and Fair. The event was planned and produced by an all-volunteer committee of Forest Ridge residents and funded by generous sponsors.
The theme of this year’s parade was “Magical Holly Days.” It included Parade Grand Marshal Santa Claus in a vintage Rolls Royce convertible, Forest Ridge Woman’s Club Dancing Divas, South Florida Cloggers, North Perry Squadron Civil Air Patrol Cadets, Soroptimist of Davie, Magnolia Service Unit (Brownies), Veterans, Orange Blossom Beauties, Miss Art Deco, South Florida Trail Riders of Broward, South Florida Roller Girls, Pure Dynamics Dance Studio, Davie Mounted Police, On Pointe Dance Studio, Oak Park neighborhood float, classic cars, Mahi Shriners, Forest Ridge Lords & Ladies, dignitaries and more.
“The positive energy and joy was palpable from the entire crowd,” said Kitty Preziosi, event leader of an all-volunteer neighborhood team and co-founder of the parade in 2000. “There were many delightful children in the parade. So special!”
Over 45 groups participated. They threw candy and beaded necklaces to the crowds that lined the streets. Some of the VIPs included Davie Mayor Judy Paul; Davie Councilmembers Susan Starkey and Caryl Hattan; Superintendent of Broward County Public Schools Robert W. Runcie; Broward School Board members Laurie Rich Levinson and Robin Bartleman; Indian Ridge Principal Frank Zagari; Billy the Marlin; Hollyhock Beauty Victoria Post; Publix “Plato” Dinosaur and several popular cartoon characters.
After the parade, the crowd moved to the Forest Ridge Greens for the fair. They enjoyed refreshments, hot dogs, inflatable fun, face painting, games, raffles, and more. There were also live stage performances by the Forest Ridge Woman’s Club Dancing Queens, South Florida Cloggers, Pure Dynamics Dance Studio, North Perry Squadron Civil Air Patrol Cadets and others.
